I don’t know what I was thinking, running off on Berklyn last night. I had every intention of staying for dinner. I’d brought enough food for us, plus Walker, in case he decided to show before his shift at Mel’s.

He didn’t.

I didn’t fully show up either.

Leery, on edge and worried I’d push her too hard, too fast, I knew I couldn’t fuck her. I lose all sense of self when I’m inside that sweet body. I’m a complete monster, drilling into her until she comes all over my cock. Which I said I wanted. And fuck if I didn’t.

But after she came and that butt plug was in place, I ran. I booked it out of there. I didn’t look back until I was at the door. I chanced a glance over my shoulder, catching the devastation of my hurried exit. Her arms wrapped around herself, she stared at the counter, where I left her, unmoving, unwavering, with a single tear running down her cheek.

I did that.

And I wasn’t even trying to be an ass. I was trying to protect her from me, from my raging erection that threatened to nail her to the floor of her kitchen or any hard surface.

But I ran for me too. She wasn’t taking my bullshit. She didn’t call me on it, but I saw the desolation in her eyes when she asked why I don’t kiss her.

I don’t kiss her because… I can’t.

She’s temporary. She’ll never be mine. And I’m not giving a piece of myself to a temporary fixture in my life.

I can’t lose myself in her. I was too undone, too itchy, barely holding on, and despite the need to rail her, I couldn’t trust that I could leave afterwards. I might just wrap her up and keep her. And I can’t.

So, I ran.
